A group of Pasifika dancers perform on stage in white dresses and red beaded necklaces.

Pasifika Festival will transform Waitangi Park into a colourful celebration of Wellington’s unique Pacific communities. The event kicks off at midday and runs through the evening. Enjoy an award-winning lineup of performances, activities, workshops, stalls, a Kids’ Zone, and food trucks.

The hotly-contested Pasifika Cuisine Cook-Off is back again. Food stalls submit their best dish for judging by a celebrity panel. You can also take part in a festival-wide activation based on the card game ‘Lalaga’. It uses Pasifika wisdom (talanoa) to foster empathy and connection through storytelling. Held throughout the day, workshops cover traditional culture and techniques such as weaving, woodwork, and craft.

The festival theme for 2025 is ‘Journey’. Explore migration journeys across the sea, and pay a visit to Leo Semau’s stone sculpture. The stone debuted at the 2024 festival, and the artist is developing his work across three festivals. See it in its half-finished state at the 2025 festival, and even try your hand at stone carving. Kids can go on their own journey, following the clues and collecting stamps in their festival passports.

This is a free event perfect for the whole family.
