It’s a first for New Zealand and a hole lot of fun for golfing enthusiasts. See the Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific (WAAP) championship at Heretaunga’s Royal Wellington Golf Club in February 2026. This is the eighth edition of WAAP, and the first time in New Zealand. The competition has become the preeminent women’s amateur championship in the Asia-Pacific region.
Each year, WAAP provides the winner with life-changing opportunities. They gain entry into three global women’s major championships and elite amateur championships. This includes the AIG Women’s Open, the Chevron Championship, Amundi Evian Championship, and the Augusta National Women’s Amateur.
Royal Wellington Golf Club in Upper Hutt is hosting WAAP in February 2026.
First established in 1895, Royal Wellington is regarded as a premier course in golfing circles. The picturesque green sits alongside the Hutt River. The public will get the chance to view the action from the course’s parkland layout. Mark Darbon, Chief Executive of The R&A said “The Royal Wellington, which has already hosted the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship, will be an outstanding golf course to test [the athlete’s] skills and truly let their talent shine through.”
