Your essential guide to coffee
Wellington takes its coffee seriously. Whether you’re after a creamy flat white, a jet-fuelled long black, or something in between, there are plenty of places to keep you caffeinated.
161B Willis Street, Te Aro, Wellington
In a city big on caffeine, there’s a small café on Willis Street bursting with personality. Evil Twins exudes cool. The family-run business is all about community, connection, and creativity. And, of course, really good coffee.
For a small café, Evil Twins punches well above its weight. As well as the usual black or white coffees, it offers wildly popular jarred drinks. In a bigger size than your usual takeaway, they’re perfect for sharing with a friend. Served chilled, choose from an oat milk triple shot latte, iced chocolate, or peach tea. The fan favourite is the matcha love. Made with 100% ceremonial pure matcha, it’s a jar of green goodness.
Next door to the café is a small retail space. Evil Twins-branded merchandise hangs around the walls. Hoodies, t-shirts, hats, and bags all bear their signature bold graphics and graffiti-style font. If that’s not enough, you can also pick up a bag of Evil Blend coffee beans. It’s an all-around Evil experience that’s anything but.
The masterminds behind the Evil brand (and the sisters behind the name) are Wellington twins Stephanie and Natalie Chin. They started the café with the help of their older sister Vanessa and brother-in-law Victor. Their family provided business mentoring, while the twins’ creativity helped bring the brand to life.
Their creative spirit is not just limited to the café. It’s driving some serious entrepreneurial goals. Stephanie and Natalie want to grow the streetwear fashion brand into markets across the country and overseas. Their high-grade coffee and matcha is making inroads around New Zealand so they are building a wider brand around that. Diversifying is an exciting prospect and is sure to keep the twins thinking creatively.
