Meaning ‘sunset glow’, Kokomea has a sweeping outlook over Kapiti Island and the Kāpiti Coast. An hour’s drive north of Wellington, you access these secluded lodgings via back country roads and farmland before taking a final 10-minute walk through native bush. Once you arrive at the PurePod, privacy and tranquillity are all around, with no neighbours to interrupt the peace except the native bird life. With three glass sides and a glass roof — the eco-cabin is the perfect way to reconnect with nature. Go to bed and watch the stars. Accommodating two guests at a time it’s big on luxuries and seclusion.

One hour north of Wellington overlooking Peka Peka Beach lies Atahuri. Atahuri is private, luxurious and exclusive accommodation, nestled in sand dunes. It’s New Zealand-owned and operated, featuring four guest suites offering separate entrances, each with private outdoor patios.

Each suite has a super king bed, luxurious en suite, and spacious lounge area. Coffee & tea making facilities, a mini snack bar, fridge, safe, TV, DVD, and wifi internet access are all provided in the suite. Peka Peka Beach is an unspoiled safe swimming beach that stretches for miles. At low tide, guests are encouraged to try their luck digging for tuatuas (shellfish) to pop on the BBQ — a must with that pre-dinner drink.

Tunapo Escape

Sitting on top of Paekākāriki Hill is Tunapo Escape. With uninterrupted views of Kapiti Island, it’s an idyllic romantic getaway. Somewhere you can completely unwind and reconnect.

The one-bedroom tiny home is completely off-grid. It’s kitted out with a kitchenette, picturesque outdoor bath, BBQ, and cosy wood burner. Lounge on the panoramic deck and soak up all-day sun, or spend the night under the stars with a glass of wine in hand. Dinner packages and picnic supplies can be provided, to make your escape as hands-off as possible.

Bikes are provided to explore the Kāpiti Coast, or there are nearby walks to take in the views. Golf and a helicopter ride can also be arranged, for the more adventurous.

Perched on a ridge looking down the valley, it’s an idyllic spot to take in the view. Or you can soak it all up in the cedar hot tub under fairy lights and stars.

Cottage 103 sleeps up to five people, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It has a full kitchen, outdoor BBQ, and outdoor dining and entertaining space.
